Prototype for a Bronze Easel
Sydney, Australia
2023
A floor-to-ceiling display system, drawing on the practice’s research into experimental fixing systems for artworks.
In the trajectory of mid-20th century designs by Franco Albini, Lina Bo Bardi, Frederick Kiesler and Carlo Scarpa, the easel reimagines the relationship between painting and space. No longer reliant on the wall, the artworks are celebrated as objects rather than planar surfaces. The easel is adjustable in height and can host several artworks at once, stacked vertically and able to be rotated in varying directions.
Bronze engineering components bring material precision to the prototype, continuing the studio's ongoing exploration of bronze as a medium.
